The faces above are those of first-year students planning on majoring in physics taking a seminar course instead of the traditional introductory lab.  This year's focus in biological physics is in part made possible by grants from HHMI.

Other innovative efforts made possible by these grants are the purchase of the state-of-the art instructional equipment such as the research grade light scattering setup.  The instructor also involves students in research on molecular biophysics that gives students a taste of a truly interdisciplinary enterprise.

First-Year Seminar, Biological Physics: There are currently 25 first-year students enrolled in the seminar.

Research on Molecular Biophysics: The instructor has involved Kenyon and non-Kenyon students, as well as a teacher from a local high school in his research.

Instructional Equipment A topnotch research-grade light scattering apparatus has recently been purchased from the Brookhaven Instrument Corporation.

Jan Kmetko is an Assistant Professor of Physics at Kenyon College.
